Our chiropractors and physiotherapists have undertaken further training in the use of dry needling as a treatment for pain control in musculoskeletal conditions.
This treatment combines both traditional Chinese acupuncture and modern Western trigger point theories. Acupuncture is one of the many skills used by our therapists as part of an integrated approach to the management of pain and inflammation. Treatment is based on scientific research and clinical evidence that acupuncture can reduce pain by stimulating the body to produce natural pain-relieving chemicals, such as endorphins, these assist the body’s healing processes complimenting other treatments such as manual therapy or exercise in order to aid recovery.
Dry needling acupuncture involves the use of single-use, pre-sterilized disposable needles inserted into the skin at specific acupuncture points. The therapist will determine the locations of these points on the basis of an assessment of the cause of your condition.
Trigger point acupuncture may also be used to help relaxation in specific muscles following traumas, for longer-term unresolved muscle pain, or as a means of increasing muscle length in order to aid stretch and rehabilitation. In the latter case, the needle is inserted into the affected muscle until the tissue is felt to relax under the needle, which is then removed. Trigger point needling often produces rapid results.
Dry needling can help with a variety of conditions including:
- Muscular pain
- Repetitive strain injury
- Knee pain
- Ankle pain
- Shoulder pain
- Tennis elbow
- Back pain
Our chiropractors and physiotherapists use dry needling acupuncture either as a stand-alone therapy or combined with other therapies to aid your rehabilitation, optimising your recovery.
